How to Get a Deaf Child Sign on your Street

By Shyanne Richardson

Have you wondered how to get a Deaf Child sign placed on your street. Here's how. Deaf Child signs are posted to make drivers aware that there is a deaf child in the area and proceed with caution. This doesn't slow every driver down, nor is it a guarantee of your child's safety, however, it will bring neighborhood awareness.

Here are 5 easy steps to get you started.

  1. To qualify your child must be 16 years or younger.
  2. You will need to get a letter from your child's physician stating that your child is Deaf or Hearing Impaired.
  3. Call your cities Traffic Engineer or Public Works Department (some phone numbers are listed below).
  4. If you live in WESTMINSTER , you will need to have your neighbors sign a petition.
  5. It can take up to 5 weeks for the signs to be posted.
