Martha Fidrych

Martha E. Fidrych has been a Regional Parent Coordinator with Colorado Families for Hands and Voices since 2002. She is the parent of two children with hearing loss. Both children were late identified and experience a progressive, fluctuating loss. At this time they have successfully transitioned to a college environment.

Previous to working with Hands and Voices, Fidrych was employed as a teacher in a middle school as well as a high school. She received a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1973 in Home Economics Education and Textiles. In 1981, she received a Masters of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado with an emphasis in Vocational Education.

During her association with Hands and Voices, Fidrych has organized family picnics and educational workshops. She has supported families with individual advocacy concerns and helped connect families with supports to benefit their needs. She has recently contributed to the Parent Funding Tool Kit as well as the What Parents Need to Know Series.

Ms. Fidrych has written several articles for the Hands & Voices Communicator, including,

  • A Young Man's Journey: American Sign Language as a Foreign Language for High School/College Requirements
  • The Transition Process from High School to Post-Secondary Education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
