Katherine Baldwin, MSW

Katherine Baldwin lives in Northglenn, Colorado, and is a parent of two young children with hearing loss, Henry (age 7) and Richard (age 1).  Her husband, Robert, is also hard-of-hearing. Prior to moving to Colorado, the Baldwin family lived in two states that did not have a Hands & Voices. Katherine believes strongly in the Hands & Voices mission and wants to help promote the growth of the organization, including the development of new chapters in other states. Katherine has been a parent member of Hands & Voices since 2002 and a board member since 2003. She has also served on several other boards and committees related to deafness/hearing loss. Katherine has a master of social work degree. Her professional career to date has mainly involved coordinating research projects related to maternal and child health.  One project was highlighted in a special issue of the Maternal and Child Health Journal, in which Katherine co-authored two articles.

Since Richard's birth, Katherine has been a stay-at-home mom, but she continues to be active in the community of families of children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. She has co-written an article for Hands & Voices on socialization issues as they pertain to children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. Katherine has also given presentations on this topic. In addition, she has participated in panel presentations for local, state and national audiences on such topics as parent perspectives on deafness and hearing loss, early hearing detection and intervention, building collaborative relationships, and understanding family systems. Katherine enjoys connecting with families and professionals to share experiences and to join in the commitment to broaden the developmental, educational, and social horizons of children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.
